This blog is to function as a journal of sorts — a place where I can record a few scattered thoughts about the movies I see and how they connect with what I teach and write about. At the very least, I hope to update it whenever I see a movie for the first time, though even that modest goal may be too ambitious! In short, while I certainly hope that this project will have value (to me, if to no one else), I nevertheless view it as provisional, limited, and ever subject to revision.
A few words about who I am and what I do: My name is Christopher Barnett. I received my Doctor of Philosophy in Theology at the University of Oxford and am currently Associate Professor in the Department of Theology & Religious Studies at Villanova University. My first book, Kierkegaard, Pietism and Holiness, was issued by Ashgate Publishing in 2011, and my second book, The Spirituality of Søren Kierkegaard, was released by Fortress Press in August 2014. Further, in addition to several book chapters and articles on Kierkegaard, I am coeditor of Theology and the Films of Terrence Malick — a 2016 book in the Routledge Studies in Religion and Film series.
